Hokuozan Sogenji Monastery Germany

2010

  1. Shodo Harada Roshi is giving a public talk and a one day sesshin in Basel in January.

  2. the yearly one week sesshin with Shodo Harada Roshi will take place at Pegasus Hof.

  3. there is a public talk and calligraphy demonstration organized at Landesmuseum Hannover end January.

  4. 1st of May moving in to the new central place of the European One Drops, Hokuozan Sogenji and starting with rebuilding

  5. one Samu week with helpers from different One Drop groups

  6. public talk and calligraphy exhibition/demonstration in Heidelberg, 16th June

  7. two day Mini sesshin in Palermo with 25 people participating in June

  8. public talk and calligraphy demonstration in Palermo

  9. one week Osesshin near Budalest with 52 people participating

  10. public talk and calligraphy demonstration in Budapest on 28th June

2009

  1. on 1.1.2009 a meeting was organized as to how the monastery will continue. The monastery left Schloss Eickhf on the 2.1.2009.

  2. the yearly Hokuozan Sogenji sesshin was organized in January in a youth hostel in Rinteln.

  3. Following the sesshin, Shodo Harada Roshi have a public talk in Munich.

  4. The yearly European Mini sesshin was held in Hungary in preparation for next year's main event.

  5. The one week yearly European sesshin was held in Denmark at the Golden Circle.

  6. Followed by a public event in Copenhagen.

  7. In Mai and November, December Sabine ShoE Huskamp participated in further training at Sogenji monastery Japan.

  8. A suitable place for a future center of the One Drop Zendos in Europe was found and now the official aspect is being clarified.

2008

  1. Once a month weekend sesshins.

  2. One week sesshin with Harada Roshi in January, followed by two days of sesshin in Palermo. 

  3. Participation at psychological workshops to learn about Western methods. 

  4. Beginning of April two boys participated in monastery life for 2 week.s   

  5. In April we participated in cleaning the village Liebenau.

  6. Mid April we were visited by four Nepalese forest students.

  7. Beginning of Mai we had Zazen for one day at the Berlin Zendo by Mario Trinkhaus.

  8. In Mai and November, December Sabine ShoE Huskamp participated in further training at Sogenji monastery Japan.

  9. In June one week of intense Tai Chi practice lead by Rouven was organized.

  10. End of June we had a one week sesshin with Harada Roshi in Poland, before a three day sesshin in Latvia. 

  11. During the summer period intense practice periods took place.

  12. Beginning of August we participated in the memorial tea ceremony in the Egidien Church in Hannover, remembering the A bomb o Hiroshima.  

  13. In August a seminar on dying and mourning took place.

  14. Twice courses in introducing Zen Buddhism were held at the local school in Liebenau. 

  15. Inge left the monastery and Gabi moved into the Kutscherhaus of the monastery, going to Japan end of September for deeper practice. 

  16. In August an exchange between the Katholic sister Peregrina and the monastery students tok place. We watched the movie the great silence together.

  17. Mid September we were visite by the Zazenkai group and Kunitomi san. 12 members organized a beautiful cultural day, followed by a  sight seeing day in Bremen. 

  18. One day Japanese cooking class by Nakamoto Hiroyo, followed by yaza all night.  

  19. In September we had a one day sit in Schleswig.

  20. In September we had a day for children. 9 children participated in the monasteries activities.

  21. Since September Tobias and Simon were living in the monastery. The monastery is being closed beginning of November, because ShoE went to Japan. Beginning of December Simon and Alex returned to the monastery. 

  22. From 27.12. until 1.1.2009 we had our Rohatsu sesshin with 15 partcipants. 

 

 2007

From 19.-26. January a 6 day sesshin was held by Shodo Harada. The teisho text was Shin Jin No Mei - On Believing in Mind by Sansokanchi Zenji.

There has been a daily monastic schedule being observed.

The television NDR  made a show about the monastery and showed it in all of Germany.

Bodhidhamma visited in July and gave a talk about his work with untouchables in India. 

there is a weekly study group, presently the text The Ten Oxherding Pictures is being studied.

At the beginning of August we had a very enthusiastic Leader Meeting from almost all European One Drop Groups.

End of August Ueda-san and his tea school from Hannover held a tea seminar for 4 days. Followed by the Shakuhachi Seminar.

A talk about Buddhism was given end of August in the Liebenau Book Shop: the Books.

Participation at the DBU Kongress near Fulda. Topic: How to live in a Buddhist way.

ShoE and two sangha members spend training time in Sogenji Japan in the fall.

Rohatsu sesshin was held with 10 participants over the New Year.

2006

From 17.-24. January a leader sesshin was held by Shodo Harada Roshi in Hokuozan Sogenji. The text for the Teisho was ZAZENGI. It was also the time for the opening ceremony of the new European centre and monastery Hokuozan Sogenji.

 2005

From the 7th until the 9th January, a leader sesshin was held, joined by people representing their groups in Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Swiss and Hungary. Future projects were discussed. A sesshin was held by Shodo Harada Roshi from the 19.-20. June in Schloss Eickhof. The Teisho text was Hakuin Zenjis Song of Zazen. 

 2004

On the 18th June a One Day sesshin was held with Shodo Harada Roshi. The practice of Zazen was joined with doing exercises of Chi Kung. Thanks to the generosity of Mr and Mrs Hess, we were able to use this beautiful place. The regular Zazenkai is taking place in Bremerhaven. 

2003

At the beginning of the year, ShoE Daishi was send by Shodo Harada Roshi to Germany, to start her own group for the practice of Zazen, with the future vision of starting a monastery there. A Workshop war held in Thieles Garden in Bremerhaven, where 120 people were instructed in Zazen and Chi Kung. A calligraphy demonstration and exhibition took place.
